VALDOSTA — Two organizations, Camp Rock of Georgia and Connections Home, are teaming up to help young adults who don’t have stable family support.

Every year, lots of young people (around 85,000) become homeless, making life even tougher for the 2 million already without homes, the organizations said in a press release.

“These young folks often struggle with money, get pregnant early, end up in jail, or even have to do things they don’t want to, just to survive,” the release said. “Without help, things will get worse. In five years, about 425,000 more young people could become homeless, cos sting everyone a lot of money.”

Camp Rock of Georgia and Connections Home want families to step in and help. They’re looking for people to become “Mentoring Families.” This means giving care and advice to young adults who don’t have anyone else.

If you’re interested in helping or if you need help yourself, there’s an information session on April 13 from noon to 3 p.m., at 1736 W. Gordon St. You can learn more about how to get involved in helping these young adults or getting support if you need it.

“The main thing is to build a friendship, not to offer a place to live,” the organizations said. “Living together usually doesn’t help them learn to take care of themselves.”
