Election results available online

VALDOSTA — Lowndes Countians went to the polls Tuesday to decide a handful of local races, to weigh in on a sales tax proposal and to help determine a variety of regional and statewide contests.
Polls were open until 7 p.m., at which time elections officials began counting ballots.

The only contested local race on the Democratic ballot was coroner.
On the Republican ballot, contested races included tax commissioner and District 5 of the Lowndes County Commission.
On the non-partisan ballot — which was voted on by Democrats, Republicans and voters who choose no party affiliation — two Lowndes County Board of Education posts were contested.
The Transportation Local Option Sales Tax was voted on by 18 counties and would pass or fail on a regional basis. The counties involved in the May 21 TSPLOST vote are Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Tift, Turner and Ware.
