Valdosta’s jobless rate slides

VALDOSTA — The Azalea City’s jobless rate dipped a bit in April, labor officials said.
Valdosta’s unemployment rate in April was 3%, down half a percent from the previous mouth, said a statement from the Georgia Department of Labor.
A year ago, the city’s jobless rate was 2 s.9%.
The labor force decreased in Valdosta by 240 and ended the month with 62,605, up by 190 when compared to April 2023, the statement said.
Valdosta finished April with 60,737 employed residents, an increase of 94 over the month and up by 101 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Valdosta ended April with 56,400 jobs, down by 100 from March to April and down by 200 when compared to April 2023, the statement said.
In April, initial unemployment claims increased by 101 (57%) in Valdosta; Compared to April 2023, claims were up by 63 (29%).
