Chauncey D. Wright Jr.

VALDOSTA — Chauncey D. Wright Jr. was born in Lowndes County, Georgia, on March 2, 1931, the sixth child of the late Mr. Chauncey and Madie Wright.

The Rev. Wright, affectionately known as “Daddy Jr.,” passed away on July 3, 2007. He was united with Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School, Valdosta, Ga., continued further study at Fort Valley State College and later served in the United States Army. He was employed by the Lowndes County Board of Education for more than 20 years, retiring in 2006.

Ordained into the ministry in 1980, he pastored Christ Gospel Missionary Baptist Church until his death. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Alberta Carter Wright for 43 years until her death and unto this union four daughters were born: Cherry, Wanda, Angela and Denise.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Reeves Wright, and her son, Isaac Nesbitt and daughters, Cherry Roberts of Panama City, Fla., Wanda (Charles) Todd, Angela (Columbus) Carter of Valdosta, Denise Wright of Lawrenceville, Charlotte (Robert) Brown of Quitman and Rhonda Statum of Valdosta. His grandchildren include Patrick (Nikki), Charles, Tiffany, Arren, Alyssa, ShaRhonda, ShaKira and Jaida. Siblings left to mourn include four sisters, Doris Copeland, Minnie Marshall, Martha Lucas and Madie (Thomas) Jordan, and two brothers, Clark (Loretta) Wright and Freddie (Juanita) Wright.

Siblings who preceded him in death were Queenie Staten, Willie Beatrice Harris and Samuel Wright.

In-laws include Bernard and Catherine Reeves, Carolyn Lemus, Bernard Reeves Jr., Mike Robinson Jr., Rev. Don (Arletha) Carter, Earnest Carter, Earnestine Carter, Vernell Carter, William (Mary Alice) Carter and Morris (Altamese) Lane. Also left to mourn are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Mount Zion AME Church with Rthe ev. Mark Christmas, pastor, and the Rev. Jermaine Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight. — Scott and Roberts Mortuary Inc.

James ‘Wilbur’ Carter Sr.

James “Wilbur” Carter Sr. 70, of Valdosta, died at his residence, Saturday, July 7, 2007. He was born on January 29, 1937 in Valdosta to the late James Hubert and Clyde Evelyn Vann Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of the Lake Park Church of Christ. He was a self-employed truck driver and retired from the Teamsters.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Montgomery) Carter of Valdosta; daughters and sons in law, Donna and Roger Vincent of Douglas, Teresa and Jeff Myers, Perry, Fla.; son and daughter in law, James, Jr. and Robin Carter of Valdosta; four stepdaughters, Gail Richardson, Peachtree City, Penny Montgomery, Stockbridge, Joy Roberts, Panama City Beach, Fla., Debbie Chesney, Easley, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Roger L. Vincent Jr., Pam Vincent, Douglas, Ga., Justin, Cameron and Tessa Myers, Perry, Fla., Kayla Hancock, Kacy Hancock, Tory Carter, Valdosta, Emily Carter, Jasper, Fla.; great grandchild, Gavin Myers Towles, Perry, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Gene and Claudette Carter, Valdosta; sisters and brothers in law, Jeneane and Ronnie Daniels, Macon, Gail and Perry Gerice, LaGrange, special brother, Ben “Junie” Vann, Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Evangelist Evans McMullen and Evangelist Marvin Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Henry Bruce ‘Tug’ Delk Jr.

Henry Bruce “Tug” Delk, Jr. 35, passed away suddenly Saturday, July 7, 2007, in the Atlanta Medical Center, Atlanta.

Mr. Delk was born March 31, 1972, in Clinch County, He was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God, Church Men’s Group and played the drums. He was a heavy equipment operator for Johnny Crumbley. Mr. Delk was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tharp and Mary Jane Delk, maternal grandfather, Edward Davis and his step-maternal grandfather, Junior Deese.

Survivors are his wife: Beth Davis Delk, Homerville; one daughter: Desirae Delk, Homerville; one son: Tuggie Delk, Homerville; father and stepmother, Henry Bruce and Carolyn Delk Sr., Homerville; mother and stepfather, Ann and R.L. Guy, Homerville; one sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Perry Thompson, Homerville; two step-sisters and brothers-in-law, Leaonda and Jason Thomas, Jasper, Fla., and Donna and Todd Meadows, New Baden, Ill.; two stepbrothers, Reb Guy and Kyle Guy, both of Homerville; maternal grandmother, Mary Jeanette Deese, Homerville; four nephews, Jack Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Gregory Thompson and Dennis Thompson, all of Homerville; a special aunt, Bernice Benoit, Homerville; and several other relatives.

Services for Mr. Delk will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 2 p.m. from the Lighthouse Assembly of God.

Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday at Lighthouse Assembly of God after 6 p.m.

The Clinch County High School Class on 1993 is asked to be honorary pallbearers and meet at the church at 1:30 p.m.
