Carolyn S. Bellew
VALDOSTA — Carolyn S. Bellew, 54, of Valdosta passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. after a brief illness. She was born in Gainesville, Fla. and had lived in Valdosta all of her life. She was Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, T.J. and Dorothy Harris and two brothers, Tommy Harris and Jimmy Harris. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa “Sissy” and Eddie Layton of Valdosta; three sons, Terry Lester of Valdosta, Michael “Bubba” Davidson, Calif., Jamie Randall, Valdosta; five grandchildren, Alan Michael Lester, Joshua and Jessica “Kissi” Sullivan, Jamie and Thomas Randall; three sisters, Betty Taylor of Deland, Fla., Barbara Sifuentes and Dorothy Batten, both of Valdosta; and brother, Billy Harris of Tampa, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Sunset Hill Cemetery. John Floyd Bishop
QUITMAN — John Floyd Bishop, 88, of Quitman died on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Fletcher, N.C., he was the son of Clarence Edward and Martha Ballard Bishop. He was a retired Civil Engineer at Moody Air Force Base, a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife Lillian Bishop of Quitman; two sons, John W. Bishop of Statesboro, Gerald S. (Libby) Bishop of Tifton; four grandchildren, Stacey, Kim, Brian, Erik; one great-grandchild; Jordan; and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Evelyn “Sister” Bishop. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. John Walker officiating. LaJune Bethay Cole
MOULTRIE — LaJune Bethay Cole of Moultrie died on Jan. 5, 2003, at her residence. She was born on Oct. 10, 1953, at Moody AFB, Ga. to Ret. CSM Willie Bethay, Sr. and Julia Bethay. She received a Bachelor of Science in education and was employed by the Board of Education of Moultrie and Pastor of Broaches Chapel in Ocilla. She leaves to lament her home going two sons, Cornealius Whitfield, Jr. and Michael Whitfield, both of Lithonia; one daughter, Sheree Whitfield of Moultrie; parents, Ret. CSM Willie Bethay, Sr. and Julia Bethay; two brothers, Willie Bethay, Jr. (Louise) of Johnston, S.C. and Thomas Bethay of Valdosta; one sister, Carol Clark (Joe) of Valdosta; three grandchildren, LaMetrice Whitfield, Kenyatta Johnson and Cornealius Whitfield, III; one goddaughter, Yasmin Harrison of DeKalb; a special cousin, Yvonia Best; two special friends, Diane Johnson and Pat Benzona; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Nadine Colly Ludwick
HOMERVILLE — Mrs. Nadine Colly Ludwick, 82, of Homerville passed away on Jan. 9, 2003, in the Lakehaven Nursing Home in Valdosta. A native and life long residence of Clinch County, she had worked at Brockway Standard for 35 years before her retirement and was a member of the Homerville Freewill Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late William Jackson Colly and Jeanette Guest Colly; four sisters and a brother preceded her in death, Leon Guy, Rocky Misiano, Lialla Sousa, Alberta Colly, and Willie Colly. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria J. and Clint Boyer of Quitman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilson and Renga Ludwick of Mission, Texas and James “Pete” and
Janice Ludwick of Kingsland, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Services for Mrs. Ludwick will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lang Memorial Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Bessie Miller Mosley
LAKELAND, Ga. — Bessie Miller Mosley, of Lakeland, Ga. died on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at her residence. She was born on Feb. 22, 1919, in Lakeland, Ga. to the late Jim Henry and Annie Miller. She was employed by the State Merit Educational System in Lakeland for 28 years and with the State Merit Educational System in Adel for three years. She retired after 31 years with the Educational System. She was married to the late Frederick Mosley. Mrs. Mosley was a member of New Bryant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, four brothers, and one sister. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter-in-law, Joann Mosley of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Fredrick Mosley (Cynthia) and Shawn Mosley of Valdosta; an adopted son/nephew, Joseph Miller (Lucille) of Pensacola, Fla.; two great- grandchildren, Jacques and Destiny of Lakeland, Ga.; three special cousins, Jasper Alexander, Renetee Berry, Geraldine Wrice; and a host of adopted children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and loving friends. NAYLOR — Mrs. Baby Ruth C. Riley, of Naylor died on Jan. 1, 2003. She was born on April 28, 1931, in Midway, Ga. to the late Comblus Carter, Sr. and Donella Carter. She was married to the late Walter Riley. She leaves to love and cherish her memories her children: three loving daughters, Oleatha Riley and Linda Riley, both of Naylor, Nancy R. Thomas (Timothy) of Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Roland Riley (Alma) of Atlanta and Theodis Riley (Yvette) of Brandenton, Fla.; one brother, Comblus Carter, Jr. (Zina) of Valdosta; one great-aunt, Rhina Webb of Homerville; sisters-in-law, Ora Mae Carter of Naylor, Minnie Carter of Valdosta; 16 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren; one dear friend, Ethal M. Morrison Hodgson Wills
LAKE PARK — Morrison Hodgson Wills, 92, a resident of Lake Park since 1988 died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 6, 1910, in Rice County, Kan., to the late John Wills and Bessie Hodgson Wills Good. Mr. Wills was a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church and their Senior Pathfinders Club, a Mason, a member of the Elks for more than 60 years and a member and former board member of the Scottish Clan MacBean. Mr. Wills’ career spanned some 70 years and thousands of miles as an oil field roughneck and trucker, to accounting, auditing and managerial employment and from the Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas oil fields, the Kansas City Board of Trade, The Hotel Bellrive in Kansas City, Memorial Gardens of America, the Kentucky State Department of Parks to numerous retirement endeavors, just name a few highlights. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and newly honored great-grandfather. He was kind, caring, courteous and generous to many worthy charitable causes, an avid golfer and lifelong fan of the
University of Kansas Basketball and a world traveler. He was a gentleman. Survivors include his wife, Martha Brinley Miller Wills of Lake Park; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank E. and Clair Story Miller of Cordele; one daughter and son-in-law, Frances L. Miller Neill and Terry A. Neill of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, Amy Miller Hollis and Lance S. Hollis, Frank E. Miller Jr., Brinley Helen Miller, Terry A. Jr. and Brannon Rogers Neill, Patie M. Neill Sitton and Todd A. Sitton, Jennifer L. Neill Brannon and M. Jeffrey Brannon; one great-grandson, Jacob Ethan Sitton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Miller Willett of Louisville, Ky., granddaughter, Melissa Ann Miller, and a brother, Ralph Wills. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the Lake Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael P. Lyons officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on tonight at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Ky.
