Valdosta man arrested in father’s death

VALDOSTA — A Valdosta man wanted in Texas for his father’s death has been jailed in Lowndes County, authorities said.

Xavier Bass was booked into the jail June 29 on a charge of fugitive from justice for fingerprintable charge, Lowndes County Jail records show.

At 2:25 p.m. June 28, officers in Fort Worth, Texas, were sent to a home in the 4400 block of Chesapeake Bay Drive on a shooting call, a statement from the Fort Worth Police Department said.

Upon arrival, they found a man in the front yard with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Medical personnel tried to save him but were unsuccessful, the statement said. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The police statement said detectives found that the suspect drove up to the residence and fired multiple shots at the victim before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The suspect was arrested in a Valdosta home without incident, the statement said. Paulk identified the suspect as Bass and said the victim was Bass’ father.

Authorities from Texas are expected to arrive in Lowndes County to take Bass back, the sheriff said.
