Head football coach Bobby Bennett was pretty happy with the win over Sebastian River. “Over all I was pretty pleased,” Bennett said. “The defense stayed on the field longer than they should have, but we made the plays when we needed to.”

Bennett said the defense had an outstanding first half.

Next week, Suwannee faces a very tough and intimidating Madison team. Madison defeated Valdosta Sept. 2 29-28 in overtime and looks like it has all the right parts working as usual.

“Just the win over Valdosta alone should keep them energized,” Bennett said. “Madison’s defense must be pretty good. Valdosta has been scoring almost 50 points every game.”

Desmond Gee, Madison’s star running back and one of the best running backs in Florida, ran for 107 yards in 18 carries and caught the only Madison pass of the game, a six-yarder for a TD. Suwannee will have to contain Gee to beat Madison.

Suwannee has two players out for the season, Matt Yanossy and Lance Moore. Derek Philpot will be out for two or three more weeks along with Markese Hunter. Other than those four on the injured list, Bennett said the team is pretty healthy.

Suwannee travels to Madison next Friday, Sept. 16. Make the short trip to cheer for the Dogs as they take on the Cowboys. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
