Tip Gamble McLeod
Tip Gamble McLeod, 79, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, in Marietta, Georgia. Mr. McLeod was born in Jasper, Florida, on December 5, 1927, to the late Angus and Cassandra McLeod. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marietta. Mr. McLeod was preceded in death by a daughter, Adrian McLeod.
Survivors include his sister, Myrtle D. Bradley of Cairo, Georgia.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Mitchell Cemetery conducted by Reverend Dale Ames.

James Jr. Pittman
James Jr. Pittman, 61, of Jennings, Florida, passed away Friday, July 12, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Pittman was a lifelong resident of Jennings where he was owner of the Pittman Chevron Station since 1978. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Pittman, and is survived by two sons: Jamie (Dawn) Pittman and Jeremy Pittman; two daughters: Joanne (Gary) Bennett and Jaclyn (Dwayne) Ball, all of Jennings; three brothers: Joe (Donna) Pittman of Arkansas, Jerry (Barbara) Pittman of Clyattville, Georgia, and Jimmy Dale Pittman of Jennings; three sisters: Rose (George) Selph of Jennings, Peggy (John) Crosby of Echols, Colorado, and Carol (David) Harvey of Jasper, Florida; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 16, 2007, in the Jennings Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Sasser’s Landing Cemetery of Jennings.

Geraldine “Gerry” Nixon
Geraldine “Gerry” Nixon, 73, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007. Mrs. Nixon was born to the late Willie Mae Simmons and Kirk Pridgen in Raiford, Florida, and was a graduate of Hamilton County public schools. She was a member of the Greater Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church were she served as a faithful member as a Deaconess and as president of the Adult Choir. Mrs. Nixon was a member of the Hamilton County Mass Choir under the leadership of Minister Philip Coombs and New Praise under the direction of Deacon Steve Troy. She was also a daycare provider. Preceding her in death was one son, William “Pookie” Lily; and two sisters: Sister Virginia Speights and Sister Shirley Singletary.
She leaves precious memories to husband, Deacon Roosevelt Nixon of Jasper; three daughters: Willie Mae (Don) Williams, Pastor Helen (Albert) Kiser, and Debra Oliver, all of Jasper; a special granddaughter she raised, Malika Nixon of Tallahassee, Florida; four sons: John (Lafayee) Lily of Tallahassee, O’Neal (Katie) of Madison, Florida, and Roosevelt Jr. (Linda), and Pastor Desi (Valerie) Nixon, all of Jasper; three sisters: Evangelist Betty Jenkins of Madison, Lille Wyatt of Houston, Texas, and Aquilla Shuler of Jasper; one brother: James Pridgen of Miami, Florida; sisters-in-law: Rebecca Lawson, Gertrude Nixon, Thomas L. Nixon, Lillie Blakely, Essie Blakely all of York, Bessemer and Laurel of Alabama, and Mae Etta Hines of Los Angeles, California; one brother-in-law: Charles Speights of Jasper; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; devoted cousins; Willie Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida, Helen Jefferson of Sanderson, Florida; special friend, Sister Betsy Walls, Josephine Randolph, Everlena Keel, Lavoria Townsend and Henrietta Jackson, a host of nieces, nephews, sorrowing friends and the Greater Poplar Springs Church Family.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Greater Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church of Jasper with Reverend J.T. Simon, Elder Philip Jackson and Pastor Desi Nixon. Interment followed at the Friendship Cemetery in Jasper.
