Memories of Idalia remain fresh.

As warnings came in over the weekend about Tropical Storm Debby — potentially Hurricane Debby by the time it makes landfall — The Valdosta Daily Times has accelerated its production schedule.

We want to be sure our employees are safe when the storm hits our area, as it is expected to do on Monday.

Usually the newspaper you receive on Tuesday is built on Monday, with last-minute news being added as late as mid-afternoon. To get ahead of the storm, we’ve had to build this edition on Sunday, which means it will lack the most recent hurricane information.

We are producing the newspaper several hours before Debby’s expected landfall. You’ll be reading it about 24 hours after that expected landfall. If all goes well, the warnings swirling around us now will be over and done by the time you pick up this edition and the skies will be blue.

But the Valdosta Daily Times newsroom is monitoring the storm and adding information to our website, valdostadailytimes.com. We encourage our readers to check there frequently for updates.

When information warrants, we post links on our Facebook page and send alerts to people on our email lists. Follow us on Facebook to get us on your news feed. You can sign up for email alerts even if you aren’t a subscriber by visiting our website, clicking the menu icon in the top left corner and scrolling down to Newsletter. Social media and the newsletter are free — and so are many of our stories about the weather and other critical and timely information.

As of this writing, we’re still hoping Debby will track farther east and spare us the impacts we felt with Idalia. If so, we’ll be back to normal operation by the time you read this.

If it doesn’t work out that way, though, The Daily Times will continue providing news about the storm, its impact and recovery efforts, and our online product will be the most timely way for you to access that information.
