Alapaha

Wanda Moore

Wanda Moore, 79 of Alapaha, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Berrien Nursing Center.

Ms. Moore was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Berrien County to the late Arthur N. Moor and Elsie Williams. Ms. Moore was a retired major in the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service. She was the first female officer to be assigned to the war zone in Vietnam. She was a member of the Alapaha United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Freida Schaffner of Alapaha; three grandchildren; two nephews; two nieces; one aunt.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Fletcher Cemetery will full military honors. There will be no formal visitation. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. — Lovein Funeral Home.



Barney

Vaughan Edmondson

Vaughan Edmondson, 58, of Barney passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness.

He was born in Hahira, Ga. , on Feb. 5, 1949, to the late William J. and Wilma (Lacey) Edmondson, Jr. He worked with the civil service as a computer analyst for 31 years in Virginia and Germany. Following his retirement he and his wife, Mary, moved back to the family farm in Barney. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Barney where he served as deacon, choir director and assistant Sunday School teacher. In his free time he enjoyed photography, fishing and working on family and friends’ computers.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mary Edmondson of Barney; two sons, Andrew Edmondson of Harrisonburg, Va., and Daniel Edmondson of Thomasville, Ga.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Bobby Sullins, Rome of Linda and Bobby Gunter of Thomasville and Mary Edmondson of Valdosta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Janet Edmondson of Barney and Larry and Ronda Edmondson and Valdosta; special great niece, Ana Laci Edmondson; a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, in the Friendship Baptist Church in Barney with the Rev. Earl Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Morven. Mr. Edmondson will lie in state one hour prior to services. No formal visitation will be held. Hahira

Johnnie Dillion

Johnnie Dillion, 71, of Hahira, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Memorial Convalescent Center in Adel.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1935, in London, Kentucky to the late James Henry and Leona Sturgil Dillion. Mr. Dillion was a stone mason, served in the National Guard and was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Dillion of Hahira; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy Bain (Donald) of Hahira, Pansy Hafley (Jimmy) of Sam Gap, Ky., Cindy Dillion (Eddie) of Chesnee, S.C., Brenda Campbell (Claude) of Williamsburg, Ky.; three sons, Johnnie Dillion Jr. of Hahira, Paul Dillion of Marietta and Tony Dillion of Valdosta; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell Dillion (Lois) of Crab Orchard, Ky., Paul Dillion (Vonnie) of McKee, Ky., David Dillion (Alene) of Henderson, Ky.

Mr. Dillion was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amy Dillion, two brothers and one sister.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery. Burial will follow. Valdosta

Helen Wilson

Helen Wilson, 73, of Valdosta, died at a local nursing home on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Pinehurst, Ga., to the late Dewey Clark and Mattie Lucille Thompson. She was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church.

Survivors are her brother, Archie Russell Thompson, Hawkinsville; special cousin, Emma Gean Bowen, Hawkinsville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Margaret Davis and David Surrency of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Lee Thompson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Alvin Carter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 p.m. until service time. John Morris Godwin, 66, of Hapeville, , passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 at Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehab. Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Lenox Baptist Church. Jo Williams, 71, of Valdosta, died Feb. 10, 2007, at her residence.
