DASHER
Roscoe Washington Thornhill
Roscoe Washington Thornhill, 88, of Dasher, and formerly of Davenport, Fla., died at South Georgia Medical Center on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007. Born Sept. 27, 1918, in Eagle Lake, Fla., he was the youngest of 11 children born to Lucius and Missouri Thornhill. Roscoe graduated from Eagle Lake High School, 2nd floor, eighth grade. He was stationed in Africa and Italy during WWII from 1941 to 1945. While in service, he received various awards and medals, including the Bronze Star and his most treasured “Gold Brick.” After Roscoe returned from the war, he met and married Helen Louise Sage on Dec. 22, 1946. He started his career working as a policeman for the Bartow Police Department, and was later appointed as the Chief of Police. His next career move was to work for the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, and he finished his career as Head of Security at the Winter Haven Hospital. He was a member of the VFW, Post 4289 Winter Haven, Fla., the American Legion Post 0003, Bartow, Fla., and he was a Mason, Lodge 186, Winter Haven, Fla. Roscoe was a faithful member of the Haines City Church of Christ and attended Airport Church of Christ in Valdosta. Roscoe spent his life being a son, brother, uncle, horseman, delivery boy, cowboy, hunter, butcher, animal doctorer, soldier, husband, son-in-law, father, policeman, Chief of Police, Deputy Sheriff, book reader, Christian, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, great person and great friend.
Survivors are his sons, Jim and Tim Thornhill; daughters-in-law, Jeanne and Lea, all of Dasher; grandchildren, Kathryn, Rachel, Amanda, Ben, Lydia and Emily, all of Valdosta, Rebecca of Sandersville, and Noah of Auburn, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kelby.
Services for Mr. Thornhill are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, Fla., with burial held in Glover Cemetery in Auburndale, Fla. Sam Conley will officiate. The family will receive friends at Oak Ridge Funeral Care this evening from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Raintree Village Children’s Home or to Georgia Christian School. Margaret Betty Parker Campbell
Margaret “Betty Parker Campbell, 71, of Quitman passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Gainesville, Fla., she was the daughter of James and Peggy Lynn Parker. She was a registered nurse and a member of St. James Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, John Campbell of Quitman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Richard Hall of Arcadia, Fla., Ginger and Walter Terenik of Morven; one son, Spence McCall of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, James Richardson, Holly McCall, Spence McCall III, and Vastin Hall; and one sister, Verne Woodleaf of Arizona.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in the Maxwell-Miller Chapel with Chaplain Stephen Norris officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.

QUITMAN
Thomas A. Valasak
Thomas A. Valasak, 92, of Quitman passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Brooks County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Ford City, Pa., on July 29, 1914, he was the son of Anna Michar and Thomas Valasak. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked for PPG Industries and was retired from Montgomery Ward and after retiring, he moved to Quitman and began Valmar Kennels, where he successfully bred and raised champion Doberman Pinchers. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Father John O’Brien officiating. Virgil Ray
Virgil Ray‚ 74, of Ray City, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following a lengthy illness. He was born and lived in Berrien County most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bige and Essie Mae Rogers Ray; and brothers, Clayton and Jimmy Ray. He was in the construction business and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Bemiss Road Baptist Church in Valdosta.
Survivors include his son, Richard Ray, Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Donna Ray, Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Dales, Ray City, Betty Summerlin, Nashville; brothers, Eddie Ray, Hilliard, Fla., William Ray, Hilliard, Fla.; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with Dr. Danny Edwards officiating. Anne Turner Sineath
Anne Turner Sineath, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Langdale Place in Valdosta. The family wishes to thank her devoted home care professionals at Langdale Place and Hospice of South Georgia.
She was born in Valdosta to Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Mann Turner on April 22, 1915. She graduated from Valdosta High School and from the Georgia State Womans College, now known as Valdosta State University, in 1937. After teaching school for several years, she married John Quentin Sineath Jr. of Valdosta in 1940. She lived in Long Island, N.Y., and Redwood City, Calif., while her husband was a pilot for Pan American World Airways, before returning to Valdosta in 1950.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Colonists. An artist and garden lover, Anne’s most cherished role was that of a loving wife, mother and grandmother surrounded by her family on special occasions.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Turner; her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Sineath; her brother-in-law, Philip Chastain, M.D.; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Brooks; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Newsome.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Jack and Anne Sineath of Atlanta, Bill and Lucille Sineath of Valdosta, Jim and Monique Sineath of Valdosta, and Martiele and Michael Schroder of Atlanta; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Doug Calahan, Trisha and Jim Thornton, Margaret Anne and Lee Newsome, Martiele and David Franklin, John Turner Sineath, Brannen and John Chamberlain, Hill Schroder and Elizabeth Schroder; a sister, Martiele Turner, M.D., of Miami, Fla.; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
