Athletes honored at Fall sports banquet

The Branford Buccaneer fall sports banquet was held Monday, Dec. 18, at BES cafetorium. Robert Kelly, president, Branford Booster Club gave the welcome after which a buffet dinner was served to athletes, parents and friends.
Bill Wiles, athletic director at BHS introduced coaches and other guests and thanked those who made the event possible.
Volleyball awards were presented to Tarina Wade, most valuable player; Shauna Nettles, outstanding senior; Rebecca Ryan, scholar athlete; and Paige Baumgart, most improved. All volleyball players, both JV and varsity were introduced by Stefanie Santos and Eric Rodriquez, coaches.
Renita Kelly, golf coach assisted by Robert Kelly introduced the team and gave the following awards: Caitlin Dempsey, low medalist; Robyn Kelly, coaches award and Melissa Bliffin, most improved.
Kelly eluded to the fact the girls who are graduating, Kelly and Dempsey have helped win three district championships, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Boys golf was presented by Coach Deanna Law. She recognized all team members and presented the following awards: Patrick VanAsch, low stroke average, MVP and captain; Dexter Peterson, most improved and Gene Mellette, coaches award.
Coach Seth Stebbins recognized the girls cross country team and named Rebecca Vionnet, most valuable player.
Chad Bonds, assisted by Wade Cashwell recognized junior varsity football team members and presented certificates of participation.
Coach Bill Wiles recognized all varsity football team members and presented awards for he following: Ted Dempsey, best scout team player; best defensive back to David Campbell; best linebacker to Matt Taylor; best offensive back Brett Suggs; best defensive lineman, Brian Barnes; best offensive lineman to Aubrey Ransom and the Buccaneer award to Tim Clark.
The spring sports dinner and awards is held each spring toward the end of the school year.
