Nan Johnson
STOCKTON — Nan Johnson, 90, of Stockton passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lincoln County on Feb. 28, 1914, to the late Robert and Love Blanchard Fleming. She was a past postmaster. She was a member of Stockton Baptist Church and Morningside Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Johnson Sr. of over 60 years.
Survivors include a son, Donald W. Johnson Jr., Valdosta; a daughter, Janie Lou Johnson, Boulder, Colo.; two grandchildren, Donaldson W. Johnson III and Christopher Michael Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Brianna Johnson, D. Walker Johnson IV, Christopher Michael Johnson Jr., Bradley Johnson, Alex Johnson, Allison Johnson; two sisters, Vadie Honea, Birmingham, Ala., and Clarice Gray, Evans, Ga.; and a brother, James C. Fleming, Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the Stockton Baptist Church with burial in the Stockton Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state one hour prior to services. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on today at the funeral home.

Mary Evelyn Skeen
JASPER, Fla. — Mary Evelyn Skeen, 65, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, following an extended illness. The Hamilton County native and former Suwannee County resident was a homemaker. Evelyn was born April 4, 1940, to the late Jack and Ruth Tyre Rye. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wade Skeen; and a sister, Brenda Arnold.
Survivors include five brothers, James Rye, Wilbur Rye and Jack Rye, all of Jasper, Fla., Tommy Rye and Charles Rye, both of Live Oak, Fla.; one sister, Ruby Jones, DeLand, Fla.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2005, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla. Interment will follow in Corinth Church Cemetery near Jasper. Lester Brown Stovall
LAKELAND — Lester Brown Stovall, 77, of Lakeland passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Herrin, Ill., on Feb. 27, 1928, to the late Thomas and Kate Etta Stovall. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946, served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1950, and in the Coast Guard from 1951. He retired from the State of Illinois as a mental health technician. Mr. Stovall was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Stovall; sister, Geneval Stovall; and five brothers, Jack Stovall, Robert Stovall, Ray Stovall, Jake Stovall and Guy Stovall.
Survivors include daughters, Janet Johnson, N. Fort Meyers, Debbie Orwig, Kewanee, Ill., Darla Davis, Lakeland, Ga., Laurie Souza, Ray City, Darcy Pruitt, Nashville, Ga., Katie Langford, Ray City, Joyce Polonco, Rockport, Texas; son, Steven Stovall, N. Fort Meyers; brother, Thomas Stovall, Sarasota, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
As per Mr. Stovall’s wishes, he will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Marianne Fendley Ussery
FORT GAINES — Marianne Fendley Ussery, 61, of Fort Gaines died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery near Fort Gaines. The Rev. Garth Duke-Barton officiated.
Mrs. Ussery was born July 19, 1944, in Randolph County, daughter of the late Alton Herman Fendley and Cassie Marie Brown Fendley. She attended Georgia Southern, was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, and was a secretary for the Clay County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include her husband, Stewart Michael “Mike” Ussery of Fort Gaines; a son, Robert F. (Claudia) Jenkins of Duluth; a daughter, Kimberly Pitzing of Valdosta; a stepson, Stewart Michael Ussery of Macon; a stepdaughter, Laura Ann Jones of Locust Grove; a brother, Alton H. (Diane) Fendley Jr. of Bluffton; a sister, Nita (Jimmy) Creamer of Dothan; and two grandchildren, Gregory Chase Pitzing and Taylor Allen Pitzing, both of Valdosta.

Emerson Earl Welden
VALDOSTA — Emerson Earl Welden, 80, of Valdosta passed away Thursday afternoon at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Montgomery County, Kan., to the late Herman and Winneford Welden. Mr. Welden retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a sister, Jane Boisvert, Brunswick, Ga.; daughter, Nancy Erwin; granddaughter, Laura Erkmann, Paula Wright; great-granddaughter, Lauren Wright, all of McLeansboro, Ill.
