VALDOSTA — Gas prices around South Georgia were virtually unchanged in the last week, following state and national trends.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Thursday was $2.88, down a penny from a week earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest price reported in the Azalea City Thursday was $2.72 per gallon at two stores on Norman Drive and Inner Perimeter Road, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
— The lowest price reported Thursday in Tifton was $2.72 per gallon at a store on US-82.
— The lowest price reported Thursday in Thomasville was $2.83 per gallon at a store on GA-122.
— In Moultrie, the lowest price reported Thursday was $2.70 per gallon at a store on East Broad Avenue.
Thursday, Valdosta was tied with Hinesville for the sixth-most expensive gasoline among the 15 Georgia markets monitored by the auto club: Beneath Savannah, Macon, Gainesville, Atlanta and Athens but above Warner Robins, Rome, Dalton, Columbus, Catoosa, Brunswick, Augusta and Albany, the AAA said.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Thursday was $3.04 per gallon, down a penny in seven days, while Georgia’s average of $2.90 per gallon was down two cents in the same period, AAA said.
“We could be heading into a period of relative stability when it comes to pump prices,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “Despite some reports to the contrary, the national average never fell below $3 this year, and it might not as a record 119 million people are forecast to travel this holiday season. And 107 million will go by car, which is a lot of fueling up.”
