VALDOSTA — Matavia Johnson and her husband Rakeem McCloud were dancing Tuesday when Mother Nature cut in.

“I went into labor at about 4:45 p.m.,” Johnson said.

She gave birth to a baby boy almost eight hours later at SGMC — the hospital’s first birth of 2025.

Kamari McCloud entered the world at 12:25 a.m. weighing nine pounds six ounces. The baby is doing well, his mother said.

Baby Kamari has an older brother, Cayden Johnson, 7.

When Kamari was born, Matavia Johnson “felt joy.” The child was delivered by C-section, the mother said.

“We had been trying (for a second baby) for a little while,” his father said.

Johnson — formerly of Adel but now living in Valdosta — works from home through a third party for the Georgia Department of Transportation, while her husband, a 12-year Army veteran, works as a truck driver for Bimbo QSR, a commercial bakery with a plant in Valdosta.

Asked about plans for the future, McCloud suggested “retiring completely,” while Johnson said there were no more children in mind.

“This is the last one,” she said.
