Two games, two wins: Lowndes triumphs over Camden

VALDOSTA— The Lowndes High School gym hosted an exciting Friday night of basketball as the Vikettes and Vikings secured victories against Camden County’s Wildcats in a regional doubleheader. 

Girls’ Game

The Vikettes delivered a dominant performance Friday night, securing a 54-35 victory over the Camden County Wildcats. Standout contributions from players like Aryana Thomas, Kaci Demps, and Shamiaha Webb helped Lowndes establish control and maintain their lead throughout the game.

Thomas opened the game with a quick three-pointer, followed by a free throw from Kayla Jackson, giving the Vikettes a quick 4-0 lead. Camden’s J’mya Albertie responded with a three-pointer, and the Wildcats briefly held the lead, 5-4. However, a strong finish by Thomas and Leah Jones put the Vikettes ahead 12-8 by the end of the first quarter.

The Vikettes extended their lead with two swift baskets from Kaci Demps. Kayla Jackson added four points with excellent moves under the basket, while Shamiaha Webb dominated in the paint. Lowndes outscored Camden 12-7 in the quarter, heading into halftime with a 24-15 advantage.

The Vikettes came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders. Shamiaha Webb, Kaci Demps, and Laila Foster combined for a 14-point run, pushing the score to 38-15. Camden struggled to find their rhythm, with their only points coming in the final two minutes of the quarter. The Vikettes ended the quarter with a commanding 44-20 lead.

Camden County fought valiantly in the final quarter. J’mya Albertie and Mahliya Reeder nailed crucial three-pointers, but the Vikettes’ defense held firm. Shamiaha Webb’s dominance under the basket, coupled with a key steal and layup from Kaci Demps, sealed the game. The Vikettes closed out the match with a convincing 54-35 win.

Boys’ Game

In an intense, fast-paced matchup, the Vikings outpaced the Camden County Wildcats to win 58-43. In a game filled with aggressive plays and sharpshooting, the Vikings managed to maintain their lead over the Wildcats once they found their rhythm.

The game opened with points from Tarrell Green Jr., but Camden’s Mason Aikens answered with back-to-back three-pointers, giving the Wildcats a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Lowndes found their groove in the second quarter. Kaden Martin and Tarrell Green Jr. capitalized under the basket, while Wyatt Ferguson’s three-pointer electrified the crowd. The Vikings outscored the Wildcats 11-4, leading 22-16 at halftime.

Tarrell Green Jr. opened the second half with a huge dunk, setting the tone for the Vikings. Kam Jackson added nine points in the quarter, including a three-pointer, as Lowndes built a 41-27 lead by the end of the third.

In the final quarter, Kam Jackson’s sharpshooting and Isaiah Camon’s aggressive drives pushed the Vikings ahead. Camden’s Jaylen Johnson hit two three-pointers late in the game, but it would not be enough to close the gap. The Vikings ended strong with a three-pointer from Holden Hiers, taking a decisive 58-43 victory.

The Vikings and Vikettes will travel to Norman Park on Tuesday for a challenging matchup against Colquitt County’s Packers, whose girls’ team has an overall 13-5 record and boys’ team has a 13-3 record.
