VALDOSTA — With temperatures dropping, the Quality of Life Association (QUOLA) is opening an emergency warming shelter this week.

The shelter will provide space for up to 30 individuals and offer around-the-clock warmth, food, and support from Tuesday through Thursday. Shelter hours began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, and the facility will remain open 24 hours a day during the cold spell.

“Just in case other shelters do not have the space, we want to be available and for people to have that option,” said Erica Miller, executive director of QUOLA.

Those needing shelter are encouraged to secure their spot as soon as possible while spots are still available. The emergency warming shelter is located at 115 E. Florida Ave. For additional information, contact QUOLA directly at (814) 813-1601.

Miller said her dedication to helping the community comes from a deeply personal place. Having experienced homelessness firsthand, she understands the struggles and uncertainties that many in the community face.

She said this lived experience fuels her passion for giving back. Whether it’s through serving meals, providing resources, or simply offering a safe and welcoming space, Miller’s goal is to connect with those she is trying to help.

“I have an amazing relationship with the visitors that come to the soup kitchen. We are like one big family,” Miller said.
