Glen helps lead Lady Valiants to sixth-place finish

ATLANTA — Valwood’s Lady Valiants varsity swim team was sixth at last weekend’s state meet at Georgia Tech. Valwood had 21 points, two behind St. Andrew’s for fifth.
According to official results, Emily Glen was within a few seconds of a state title in the 200 individual medley. Glen swam in 2:12.67 seconds, half an eyelash behind second-place Martha Kyle Bates of Westminster Christian at 2:12.22. Madison Dampier of Tallulah Falls won in 2:05.
Glen was even closer to first place in the 100-yard freestyle. She earned fourth place in 55.32 seconds, but that barely a half-second from first. Tallulah Falls’ Lucia Roser de Hoyos won in 54.78 seconds.
Finally, Glen had a third place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09. First place in that event swam in 1:06.65.
Haley Hardy earned seventh in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.1, 10th in the 500 freestyle in 6:05, and 12th in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.
Marti Moorman, Emily Glen, Haley Hardy and Hailyn Singletary were eighth in the 200 medley relay in 2:16, and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:02.25.
Young Valiants had a good outing at Georgia Tech. Camille Vandemark earned third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00, 2.25 seconds from first place.
Earlier, Vandemark was seventh in the 50 freestyle in 28.36 seconds and also turned in 16th place in the 50-yard breaststroke. The middle school girls earned 12th as a team.
Solomon Hardy earned 16th in the middle school 100 individual medley, 16th in the 50 backstroke, and 17th in the 50 butterfly. Andrew DeMersseman was 12th in the 50-yard breaststroke.
