VALDOSTA — A pair of fires kept the Valdosta Fire Department busy Monday.
Around 5:48 p.m., firefighters headed to 1707 North Ashley Street on a report of a structure fire, a fire department statement said.
They found smoke coming from a two-story apartment complex; when they entered, they found the fire had been extinguished.
The cause of the fire was cooking related, and one occupant sustained burns, the fire department said. The fire department release did not name the person nor indicate the extent of their injuries.
Fire units headed out to the second blaze around 6 p.m. at 616 East Jane Street, finding flames and smoke coming from a single-family home, the statement said.
Firefighters put out the blaze and made sure no one was inside. The fire is believed to be accidental; three occupants were displaced and received help from the American Red Cross.
The Valdosta Police Department and SGMC Health EMS assisted with on-scene operations.
