QUITMAN — Two Quitman residents — one of them a police officer — were recently arrested on child cruelty charges, authorities said.

Deandre Tucker, 33, a Quitman police officer, was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, and his wife, Micayla Tucker, 30, was charged with cruelty to children in the second degree, a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Quitman police asked the GBI to investigation allegations of child abuse against a Quitman police officer March 2, the statement said. Based on the severity of visible injuries on the child, the Tuckers were arrested, the GBI said.
