“I understand that I will often meet patients and their families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” Keith said. “I believe in taking the time to listen to their concerns, answer their questions and provide straightforward communication. We work as a team with one shared goal, which is to help patients return to their pre-injury level of function as closely as possible.”

Keith’s path to medicine began early. Inspired by his father’s volunteer work with the local rescue squad in Knox County, Tennessee, he decided at a young age to pursue a career in healthcare. Beginning as a volunteer at 14, he went on to serve as a medic in the Air Force and later worked as a firefighter/paramedic while completing his undergraduate degree. His background in emergency care ultimately drew him to orthopedic trauma surgery, where he continues to apply his passion for helping patients during critical moments.

“Joining SGMC Health felt like the right fit,” Keith said. “The warm welcome I received and the administration’s commitment to expanding services to keep patients close to home resonated with me. I’m excited to become part of this community.”

Keith earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his general surgery internship at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Millcreek Community Hospital/LECOM in Erie, Pennsylvania. He further specialized through an orthopedic surgery trauma fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Keith is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and an active member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association, Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Outside of his medical career, Keith enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with his wife, Angela, and their two daughters. With nearly 15 years of active duty service between the Air Force and Navy, he continues his service as a drilling reservist in the Navy Reserves.

As SGMC Health continues to grow and expand its emergency and trauma services, Keith’s expertise will be instrumental in enhancing the system’s ability to provide lifesaving care when it is needed most, according to a news release.
