Berrien advances to Sweet 16 for 27th consecutive year

NASHVILLE — Berrien’s Rebelettes thundered into the second round of the state Class A Div. 1 state tennis tournament Wednesday, shutting out Chattooga, 5-0.

Head coach Jarrett Luke said Berrien will host Swainsboro Monday at 1 p.m. in a second-round match. Swainsboro, a No. 28 seed, upset No. 5 Lamar County in the first round. Berrien is a No. 12 seed.

In making their 27th consecutive Sweet 16 appearance, Joci Holbrook got BHS off hot with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.

From there, Luke had wins with Kayla Wiley (6-1, 6-1) and then from top doubles team Alli Butler and Sarah Nugent (6-1, 6-1).

Berrien finished the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win by Emmi Warren, then by Emery Lane and Callie Nix at the other doubles, 6-3, 6-3.

Contenders every year for the state title, Berrien’s record is 15-6 in 2025.
