Four arrested, one sought in connection with shooting

Valdosta police made four arrests in connection with an april 26 shooting and are seeking another local man.

Valdosta Police Department issued a news release stating officers are seeking the public’s help in locating Kewame “KJ” Taylor, who has active arrest warrants and should be considered armed and dangerous.

The release states at 11 p.m., April 26, VPD received several 911 calls from local residents about a shooting at Friendly’s Express, 3645 Inner Perimeter Rd.

“When officers arrived at the store, they found evidence of a shooting but could not locate anyone who had been shot, and the parking lot was empty,” the news release stated. “As officers were attempting to determine what had occurred, a call was received that an 18-year-old male had shown up at the hospital and had been shot with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.”

VPD officials stated that detectives and crime scene personnel responded to Friendly’s Express and the hospital, to conduct an investigation.  

Through investigation, detectives determined that a large crowd of subjects were standing outside of Friendly’s Express, according to VPD.

“The group was standing around talking when other vehicles pulled into the parking lot,” Valdosta police said. “After stopping at the gas pumps, males exited the vehicles and approached the group of subjects who had already been present. A quick altercation occurred, and then guns were produced and discharged numerous times, ultimately striking the victim.

Detectives have been able to identify several subjects who were involved in the incident.”

VPD obtained arrest warrants for:

  • Trevion “Tre” McGee, 20, on three felony counts including aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Tyrese “Bubalo” McGee, 18, three felony counts including aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Callon “CJ” Sturrup, 18, three felony counts including aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Caleb Dennis, 18, three felony counts including aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • Kewame “KJ” Taylor, 19, three felony counts including aggravated battery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Both Trevion and Tyrese McGee turned themselves in at the Valdosta Police Department. Detectives found Dennis at his residence and took him into custody. Sturrup turned himself in to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. 

All four of these subjects are being held at Lowndes County Jail.

VPD asks the public for help in locating Taylor, an African American male, age 19, a Valdosta resident. If anyone knows his whereabouts, please contact 911 immediately.

Detectives are still actively investigating this case. VPD said in its release that more charges will be forthcoming.

“Our staff has been going non-stop on this case, and more arrests will be made.  We appreciate the assistance we received from the Hahira Police Department, along with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, to locate these dangerous individuals and get them into custody safely.” Chief Leslie Manahan said.
