VALDOSTA — James Matthew Coody, 16, of Valdosta, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at his residence.

Born in Lowndes County, he was the son of Charles Robert and Sandra Kaye O’Dell Coody. He was a student in the Lowndes County School System and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother, Sandy Coody of Valdosta; his father, Charles Robert (Marie) Coody of Quitman; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Taylor of Valdosta; maternal grandfather, Wayne Taylor of Valdosta; one brother, Justin Coody of Valdosta; two stepsisters, Pam June of Greenwich, Ohio, Becky Guthrie of Adel; aunts, Kay (Ronald) Coody, Patricia Gaddis, Lisa O’Dell, Karen (Randy) Jarvis, and Buddy (Cathy) Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., today, Sept. 13 at the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. John Paige officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Church Cemetery. QUITMAN — Anna Frances Cummings, 78, of Quitman, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Brooks County Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Cummings was a lifelong resident of Brooks County, the daughter of Olin P. and Anna Renfro Ives. She was a bookkeeper for Romine Furniture Co. for 51 years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Quitman.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Charlie Ramsey of Quitman; one son, Buddy Cummings of Thomasville; one granddaughter, Fran (Tally) Wisenbaker; four grandsons, Chuck Ramsey, Rob Cummings, Tim Cummings, Eddie Cummings; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 14 in Elam Cemetery with the Rev. Loren Hildebrant officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. — Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home, Quitman



ALAPAHA — John DeBoyd, 54, of Alapaha, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Berrien County Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1949, in Mercer County, W. Va., to the late Floyd and Ada Sampson DeBoyd. He was a farm laborer employed with Dixon Farms.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Hope DeBoyd of Alapaha; one daughter, Kasandra DeBoyd of Nashville; two sons, John DeBoyd, Alapaha, Bruce Wayne DeBoyd, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Sue Mosely, Middleburg, Fla., Dorothy Sparks, Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Mosely, Middleburg, Fla., Dorothy Sparks, Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, James Edward DeBoyd, Yulee, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 15 in Liberty Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Dubose and John Dixon officiating. Visitation will held from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour Monday. — Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville



CARROLLTON — Lessie Kelly Stinger, 90, of Mathews Avenue, Carrollton, passed away Thursday afternoon at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Lowndes County to the late Green Kelly and Martha Lula Jane Drawdy Kelly. She was a retired sewing instructor for the Singer Company and a member of the Veal Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Tifton Stringer, and a grandson, Matthew Stringer.

Survivors include three children, Marlow T. and Joy Stringer of Dallas, Truman Stringer of Carrollton, and Sherry Nelms of Roopville; four grandchildren, Terry Nelms, Shelly Lee, Terri Cook and Nori Salamon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, Sept. 13, 2003, at Veal Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Sapp and the Rev. Ralph Caldwell officiating. Music will be rendered by Elaine McLain Sapp and Sabrina White. Pallbearers will be Terry Lee Nelms, Donnie Arrington, Lee Shackelford, Jerry Driver, Dale McWhorter and Richard Eidson. ALAPAHA — Bertha Janet Tucker, 71, of Alapaha, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Irwin County to Harrison and Miram Griffin Latham. She was a homemaker and member of Alapaha United Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Tucker were married for 57 years.

She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Tucker of Alapaha; four sons, Raymond Tucker, Valdosta, Richard Tucker Jr., Ricky Tucker, Rodney Tucker, all of Alapaha; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 14 at Alapaha United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Paron Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today. — Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville
