Cintron, Liles win Winnersville Triathlon

Stephanie Liles of Tallahassee was the first female to finish the Winnersville Triathlon Saturday in Twin Lakes.

TWIN LAKES — Kiko Cintron and Stephanie Liles, both from Tallahassee, Fla., won the Winnersville Triathlon Saturday morning at the 4-H Camp in Twin Lakes.

Cintron pulled ahead during the run, and crossed the finish line in 1:07.27, 21 seconds ahead of second-place finisher John Seppala of Valdosta.

Cintron was among the leaders throughout the event. He completed the swim in 5:51, finished the cycling portion of the triathlon in 37:21, then completed the run in 23:46.

Seppala was second with a time of 1:07.48. John Anderson of Valdosta crossed the finish line third, with a time of 1:08.30. Michael Weyant of Tallahassee took fourth, in 1:09.18, while Thomas Skinner of Acworth took fifth, with a time of 1:12.30. Greg Kazmierski was sixth (1:12.36), followed by Scott Merriott of Destin, Fla. (1:13.56), Mike Bonn of Tallahassee (1:14.35), Harvey Gayer of Athens (1:14.58) and David Dierstein (1:15.15).

Liles dominated the women’s race, finishing in 1:11.05. Her time was good enough to finish fifth overall in the race. She crossed the finish line more than six minutes ahead of the next female competitor.

Liles was the sixth woman out of the water, completing the swim in 7:39, but took the lead on the bike and never gave it up. Her time of 37:50 in the cycling portion was easily the fastest among the women, and she also had the fastest run, 24:37.

Kelly Fleming of Valdosta was second, finishing the competition in 1:17.07. Mary Gorham-Rowan of Tallahassee finished third in 1:17.24, Janet Sheeley was fourth (1:18.14) and Angela Leach of Valdosta was fifth, with a time of 1:22.57.

Gayer, who was ninth overall with a time of 1:14.58, won the Clydesdale division by 10 minutes. Chris White of Atlanta was second, finishing in 1:25.14, followed by Brandon Jones of Tifton (1:28.26). Jessica Avera of Valdosta won the Athena division, crossing the finish line in 1:46.05.

There was also a triathlon relay. The Catholic Girls team of Sandra Naglack and Melanie Ellis won the relay with a time of 1:26.04. Valdosta Family Medicine (Scott Farquhar and Rusty Mizaur) took second, finishing in 1:31.09.

There was also a duathlon (consisting of a running leg, a cycling leg and another running leg) held at the 4-H Club.

Will Thompson of Tallahassee won the duathlon, crossing the finish line in 1:14.02 for a victory of over six minutes. Mark Perkins of Valdosta was second, finishing in 1:20.23.

Kathy Lindsay of Tallahassee won the women’s duathlon, crossing the finish line in 1:31.36. Amanda Hudson, also from Tallahassee, was second, finishing in 1:33.30.

The triathlon and duathlon were sponsored by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Sports Commission, Valdosta Bike Center and Specialty Awards by Classics.
