Bravo wins twice at Tift swim meet

TIFTON — Swimming season is now underway for high schools. Saturday in Tifton, both Valdosta and Lowndes jumped in the pool for a meet hosted by the Blue Devils.
Tift swept top honors for boys and girls. Valdosta’s Lady ‘Cats were third with 47 points. Lowndes’ Vikings were fifth in the boys’ standings at 19 points.
Nine teams competed in Tifton, including five of the six in Region 1-6A. Besides Valdosta and Lowndes were Tift County, Colquitt County and Camden County.
Edward Bravo had both wins for the day for the Vikings. Bravo swam the 200 individual medley in 2:12, winning by 18 seconds. His time of 59.26 seconds in the 100 backstroke gave him the victory by less than a second over Thomas County Central’s Nick Pierce.
Valdosta’s best races of the day were a pair of third place finishes.
In the 200-yard girls freestyle relay, Ann Blevins, Stella Blevins, Eider Arrizabalaga and Amelia Blevins combined for third in 1:57. They were less than one second off second place.
Amelia Blevins was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.

— Boys 500 freestyle: Kennedy (4th).
— Girls 100 backstroke: Stella Blevins (6th).
— Girls 100 breaststroke: Ann Blevins (4th).
— Girls 400 freestyle relay: Neveah Wallstrom, Kelly McCall, Arianna Lewis and Hayden Peterson (8th).
