Letty A. Hett, 76, of Live Oak, Florida, formerly of South Road Brentwood, New Hampshire, entered into eternal rest with her Lord Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at Haven Hospice Center, Lake City, Florida, after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born May 17, 1931 in Exeter, New Hampshire the daughter of Lewis and Frances Damsell Page. Letty graduated from Robinson Female Seminary in 1949. She lived in Brentwood, New Hampshire, Alton Bay, New Hampshire, St. Petersburg, Florida and Live Oak, Florida, most of her life.
Letty served several years on the Brentwood Planning Board, and later was the first woman in Brentwood’s history to be elected to the Board of Selectmen. She also served as the board chair. Throughout her life, her friends, neighbors and colleagues admired her organizational skills.
Letty received Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a very young age, and devoted her entire life to His service – a ministry that touched many lives for Christ. She was an active member of the Advent Christian Church and faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and Bible study leader for over 50 years.
Letty was an avid gardener and a long-standing member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Leslie J. Hett Sr., three daughters, Penny L. Carpenter of Raymond, New Hampshire, Vicki L. Dunbar of Exeter, New Hampshire and Wendy J. Goldston of Harriman, Tennessee; one son, Leslie (Jay) Hett Jr. of Brentwood, New Hampshire; nine grandchildren, Robert B. Carpenter Jr. of Alton, New Hampshire, Christopher J. Carpenter of St. Louis, Missouri, Katie L. Grise of Brentwood, New Hampshire, Jessie R. Hett of Somersworth, New Hampshire and Sarah R., Rachel M., Molly F., Emily I. and Erin E. Goldston, all of Harriman, Tennessee; five great-grandchildren, Riley, Talisee, Avree, Sam and Ava Carpenter; four sisters, Sue Mazlewski of Newmarket, New Hampshire, Glenda Treet of Magnolia, Delaware, Geraldine Martel of Winter Haven, Florida and Caroline Smith of Exeter, New Hampshire; and three brothers, Mark Page of Wells, Maine, David Page of South Boston, Massachusetts and Daniel Page. She was predeceased by one daughter, Kristie, L. Hett, in 1998.
A memorial service was held at Bixler Memorial Chapel at the Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, Florida at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1. There will also be a memorial service at the Alton Bay Christian Conference Center Chapel in New Hampshire sometime during the summer of 2008. Future details of the memorial service will be made available upon request. She will be laid to rest in the Harmony Grove section of the South Cemetery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Graveside services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Bixler Memorial Church, P.O. Box 4413, Dowling Park, Fl 32064.
