Rant & Rave for Friday, Feb. 22, 2008

Here’s a rant for those parents who rant about the school system not accommodating them by scheduling holidays for their convenience: When you chose to have a child you should have done so with the recognition that it would require some sacrifice, planning, inconvenience, and effort on your part. The world (and school system) is under no obligation to work around your employment schedule or your personal desires.
We are designated a “Tree City” by the Forestry Service because we meet the requirements: having a designated tree-care ordinance and someone to monitor it, devoting at least $2 per capita to urban forestry, and the public observance of Arbor Day. No where does it say we have to preserve every tree or limit growth in the community.
Pizza delivery man robbed at gun point? Hmm, we have gun control laws already, perhaps a pizza delivery control law, regulation and ban should be called for?
Please stop making changes at VTC that are not good for the students. Changing the schedule will cost gas, problems with jobs and unhappy students. Money is not the answer to everything. Good school and some flexibility and the students will come.
Slow down, visit and smile at the cute baby while in line, and keep calm. Enjoy life.
Note to Sharon Stone; I agree that war is not a movie but neither were the pictures of planes flying into our buildings. Any doubt about your intelligence has been removed.
To the person who complained about the Valdosta VA Clinic, if you are so unhappy with the clinic, find another clinic. I personally have had very good experiences and find the staff to be very professional and friendly. Stop complaining and be grateful the government is willing to put a clinic here for you.
A company truck drove down Union Road this week carrying sod and spilled all down Union Road in everyone’s yards and ditches. The truck never stopped. A lot of us just had our yards done. I think the company should come back and pick it up.
Valdosta does not allow burning within the city limits. If you live in the county, you can burn your yard debris. Just call the Georgia Forestry Commission, give them your name, address and phone number and they will give you a burning permit. How do I know? I just got one. I hope this will help.
From a hopeless romantic, thank goodness Valentine’s Day is gone for another year.
To the person who commented that law-enforcement should do something about people who are driving while on their cell phones and not paying attention. Well, what about the officers that I’ve seen and continue to see using their cell phones while driving and not to mention are on patrol? Will I be able to reprimand them also?
Thanks to all that you do, Dr. Dennis Proctor, Berrien Middle School. He will be missed as an example of what leadership should be and as a role model for how we should treat one another.
