Lady Blazers dominate Golden Rams, 60-32

Every player on Valdosta State’s women’s basketball team saw time on the court as the Blazers dominated Albany State Wednesday.

Valdosta State, ranked No. 13 in the latest Division II women’s basketball poll, easily defeated the Golden Rams 60-32 in Albany.

The win improves the Blazers record to 8-1 on the season.

The Blazers kept Albany State from shooting the ball inside the paint and played containing defense. The Lady Rams managed to hit just eight-of-56 shots (14 percent) in the game. Keywanna Price scored the most points for Albany State, tallying seven.

Both teams struggled to find the basket in the first half, as Albany State shot 16 percent and VSU made 27 percent of their opportunities. The Blazers, however, were able to step it up in the second half, connecting on 13-of-24 shots.

After leading by just five points in the first half, VSU blew it open in the second half, outscoring the Lady Rams 38-15.

Carley Peterson paced the Blazers, scoring 15 points, with three assists and six rebounds. Candice Ferrell came up big defensively for VSU, contributing five steals and 10 rebounds.

On Friday, Valdosta State will travel to Hawaii for the Hoop and Surf Honolulu Classic on Dec. 20 and 21.
