Minnie G. Ceasar

VALDOSTA — Minnie G. Ceasar, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 23, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. A long time resident of Valdosta, she resided at 606 W. Magnolia St. She was born on Aug. 15, 1913, in Abbeyville, Ala., and is survived by two sons, Norman (Diane) Ceasar of Inkster, Mich.; Sam (Carleen) Ceasar of Florida City, Fla.; six daughters, Charlie Mae Sanford of Valdosta; Beverly Johnson, Miami, Pearlie Lipscomb, Valdosta; Gladys McClain, Miami; Geraldine (the Rev. James) Greene, Thomasville; and Anna Jean Ceasar of Valdosta; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Ceasar; her mother, Lucy Franklin Berrian; and daughters, Devoria Ceasar and Mary Lucy Coes. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 517 N. Oak St., with the Rev. Gregory Homer of Fort Valley officiating. Robert Lee Coleman Jr.

VALDOSTA — Robert Lee Coleman Jr., 77, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lake City, Fla., after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 1, 1924, in Sweetwater, Texas, to the late Robert Lee Sr., and Sara James Coleman and had lived in Valdosta for 34 years and was a Baptist. Mr. Coleman had been employed with McRae Construction and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force having served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Survivors include his wife, Irene Poole Coleman of Valdosta; five brothers and three sisters. Mr. Coleman will be cremated and there will be no services. — Carson McLane Funeral Home



Leo “Steve” Stephenson Collins Jr.

QUITMAN — Leo “Steve” Stephenson Collins, Jr., 62, of Quitman, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Collins was a retired correctional officer and a member of First Baptist Church of Quitman. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Olliff Collins; three daughters, Stephanie Collins, Valdosta, Toni (Jeff) Edwards of Chaney, Wash., Jennifer C. (David) Trehoe, Live Oak, Fla.; five grandchildren, Allison Taylor, Valdosta, Carolanne and Collin Edwards, Washington, Jaden Smith and Marina Trehoe of Live Oak; two sisters, Merna Collins of Quitman and Betty Gornto of Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Quitman First Baptist Church with the Rev. Loren Hildebrant officiating. Burial will follow on the old side of Oak Hill Cemetery. Curtis Copeland III

VALDOSTA — Born: Curtis Copeland III was born on Dec. 21, 1983, in Atlanta to Mechelle and the late Dr. Curtis Copeland Jr. Time to serve: Curtis was a senior at Lowndes High School, Class of 2002. During his time at LHS, Curtis played football in 1998-1999, with the Lowndes County Vikings. Time to rejoice: Curtis left this life to be with his heavenly father on Nov. 21, 2001. He leaves to remember him a loving and devoted family which includes his mother, Mechelle Copeland; his brother, Christopher; his sister, Carrie; two grandmothers, Carrie Scales and Beaulah Copeland. He also leaves four aunts, Harriet Linder (Rufus), Sheila Henderson (Antonio), Phyllis Copeland and Beverly Hampton (Ivory); two uncles, Michael Copeland (Linda), Preston Copeland; and godparents, Reverend and Trene Brown; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. SENOIA — Richard “Dick” Dasher of Senoia, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Dasher was born in Tampa, Fla. He was a realtor with The Homesource Realtors. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, I.B. “Bill” and Melva Davis Dasher. Surviving are his wife, Denise Dasher of Senoia; sons, Taylor Davis Dasher of Senoia and Travis B. Evelyn Grace (Granny Grace) Faircloth Goff

VALDOSTA — Evelyn Grace (Granny Grace) Faircloth Goff, 81, of Valdosta, passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 29, 2001, at the Lake Haven Nursing Home in Valdosta after a lengthy illness. She was born in Hahira and lived in Lowndes County most of her life. She was Baptist by faith. Her husband, Jacob Edison Goff, a daughter, Evelyn Daniels, parents, Burna and Sula V. Williams, her father, Allen Eugene Faircloth and a sister, Janie Faircloth, preceded her in death. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Elizabeth Goff of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and George Nickell and Nancy and Emory Futch, all of Valdosta; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Wynn of Cleveland, Bert Witte, Edgemont, S.D.; two brothers, James Williams and Richard Williams, both of Valdosta; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mary Jo Bennett Fletcher

ARLINGTON, Texas — Mary Jo Bennett Fletcher, 63, of Arlington, Texas, died on Nov. 28, 2001, in Arlington Hospital, Arlington. She was born on March 10, 1938, in Cook County to the late Burton B. and Ella Ruth Gray Bennett. She moved to Arlington, Texas in 1970. Mary Jo was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a fun loving person with many lifelong friends and loved to talk and tell jokes. Her main interests in life were her children and grandsons, decorating, cooking and shopping. Mary Jo

was president of Thomas Floors, Inc. until 1993. She fought an 11-year battle with lymphoma cancer along with the loving care of Dr. Dicke and the other caring nurses and assistants of the Arlington Cancer Center and the Arlington Memorial Hospital staff, especially the personnel at Station 32, The Oncology Section. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed dearly. Mrs. Fletcher is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Emory Thomas Fletcher Jr. of Arlington; one son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Charlene Fletcher of Arlington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Ben Dodson and Amy and Ammar Fletcher, all of Arlington; the apples of her eye, grandsons, B.J. Dodson of Arlington, Warren Thomas (W.T.) Fletcher of Arlington; one brother, Carroll Bennett of Thomasville; three sisters, Miss Virginia Bennett, Mattie Ruth Emrich, both of Adel, Betty Jean Lloyd of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews also survive. Eula W. Green

VALDOSTA — Eula W. Green departed this life Nov. 21, 2001, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was born July 5, 1904 in Valdosta to Jack and Ella Wright. She attended Valdosta public schools. Mrs. Green gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was united with Mt. Zion AME Church where she was a member of the Sunday School Missionary Society, Pallbearers Society and Stewardess Board. She remained faithful until her health failed. She later moved to Jacksonville, Fla., with her daughters. She attended Mother Midway AME Church until her death. She was married to Willie Greene, who preceded her in death, and to this union 15 children were born. Six preceded her in death. She left cherished memories and examples for everyone who knew her. She leaves seven daughters, Ella Byrd of Hartford, Conn., Verdie “Polly” (Frank) Bell of Jacksonville, Mary Louise Berrien of Valdosta, Marion (James) Bailey of Hartford, Emily Canady of Howell, Angie Morris of Kansas City, Kan., and Eula “Sister” Copeland of Jacksonville; two sons, Tyrone Greene of Miami, Fla., and Clifford Greene of Hartford; one sister-in-law, Eunice Mae Daniels of Swainsboro; 53 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 43 great-great-grandchildren; a number of other relatives and many friends. ADEL — Charles Anthony Mixon, 63, of Adel, died on Nov. 29, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on March 25, 1938, in Cook County to the late Kether Jackson Mixon Sr. and Julia Lewis Mixon. He lived most of his life in Cook County. Mr. Mixon was a retired Quarter Master 1st Class in the U. S. Navy and a member of Springhead Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Oliver Mixon; one son, Charles Terry Mixon; three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Mixon is survived by one son, Anthony A. Mixon of North Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Cynthia L. Mixon, North Charleston; one sister, Beulah Handley of Irvinville. MOULTRIE — Annie Lou Hancock Willis, 67, of Moultrie, died on Nov. 28, 2001, due to a stroke suffered last Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2001, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. She was born on May 4, 1934, to the late Ira Dean and Mary Lou Rumph Hancock in Colquitt County where she lived most of her life. Mrs. Willis was a GTE operator, retired after 20 years, a devout Christian, recently attended the First Baptist Church and Hickory Head Baptist Church in Quitman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Boswell Willis.
