VALDOSTA — Members of Crossroads Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church joined local contractors Saturday in renovating the home of Pastor Marvin Del Collins.

The churches recently came together in hopes of completing a mission project.

When members heard about the condition of the house where Collins, affectionately known to many as “Preacher Man,” resides, they decided to invest in some repairs and do something about it.

The house, located at 910 E. Brookwood Drive, has sustained an ample amount of termite and water damage.

Seventeen people worked at the house Saturday. The work will continue until all of the repairs are completed.

Contractors have already torn down two existing bathrooms in the home and will replace them with one new bathroom.

They will also replace the roof and make any additional needed repairs, free of charge to Collins.

The general contractors over the project are Rusty Thornton and Miles Hannon. Several local businesses are also assisting with the project.

Collins runs his church, Ephasus Bible Church Inc., from his home and has been ministering in Valdosta for 23 years.

He is also a street preacher.

Collins sees the mission project as a blessing.

“Through these people, God has blessed me and the ministry,” he said. “My gratitude cannot be expressed in words. I thank everyone involved for their time and their resources.”

The churches are accepting tax-deductible donations to assist with the project.

Anyone who would like to contribute can call (229) 247-5765 or send donations to The Marvin Del Collins Evangelistic Association Inc., P.O. Box 3531 (910 E. Brookwood Drive) Valdosta, GA 31604.
