VALDOSTA — South Georgia can expect rainy weather this weekend, according to forecasts.
A ridge of high pressure over the Tennessee Valley will bring dry, cool winds to South Georgia during the work week, said Israel Gonzales, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Fla.
The region will see breezy conditions Thursday and Friday, he said.
The weekend will be dominated by rain as a result of a low pressure system building in the Gulf of Mexico, Gonzales said.
The low is not expected to build into a tropical storm, but its travel track is uncertain, he said.
Rainfall amounts around Valdosta this weekend are expected to be around 2-3 inches, while rain in the Tifton area should run from 1 1/2 to 2 inches, Gonzales said.
Rainfall chances for Valdosta run from 30% Saturday to 70% Sunday, the weather service forecast for the Azalea City shows.
In Tifton, daytime highs should float around 60 all the way through the weekend, with overnight lows in the upper 40s. Tifton’s rain chances are predicted by the weather service to be 30% Sunday and 70% Sunday.
Valdosta’s temperatures are expected to run in the low 60s by day through the work week, dipping into the upper 50s over the weekend; the city’s overnight lows should bounce around from the mid-40s through Friday to the mid-50s Saturday and Sunday.
South Georgia is not foreseen to have severe weather over the next seven days, Gonzales, with gusty winds and rain being the major threats.
