If you are familiar with Blazer Nails, the nail shop on Ashley Street, then you are familiar with Tracy Nguyen and Jason Luong.

The pair moved to a new location and renamed their salon to Nail Expressions and Spa. It has been open for almost two months.  Nguyen, who basically grew up in a salon that her mother owned in California, said the couple wanted to expand the operation and needed a bigger place.  “We wanted to expand and get a bigger place so we could offer a lot more services for the customers,” Nguyen said.

Besides the usual manicures, pedicures and nail enhancements, Nail Expressions and Spa now offers hot stone massages and facial and body waxing.

And it’s not just women who are coming in for treatments – they are bringing their husbands also.

“We have a lot of men (and) at first they (are) kind of shy about it,” Nguyen said. “They get manicures and pedicures. First they come with their wives and they get it done. They get comfortable and they come back. The next several times they come without the wife.”

    Q:  How has business been since opening up two months ago?

    A:  It’s been pretty good. A lot of the older customers come in. We have regular clientele.

    Q:  What has been more popular, the manicure/pedicures or the spa treatments?

    A:  Honestly we’ve been into the nail business for so long, we still have a lot of customers for nails. For the spa, we have massages, full body waxing and we have a lot of people liking it. It’s very convenient for them.

    Q:  What kind of facial or body waxing do you do?

    A:  We have eyebrows, lips, chin, underarms, forearms, half or full leg, back, bikini and Brazilian.

    Q:  Do you have any special pricing for children?

    A:  There is the Little Princess Menu for children up to 10 years old.

    Q:  What are your most popular colors for nails?

    A:  We have new colors that come in for each season. Right now it’s very hot colors, like neon pink or green and blue. For winter time, people get black or very dark colors.

    Q:  Do you think it’s weird when people want their nail color to watch what they are wearing?

    A:  No not normally, because (we have) people who want to go to a party and they pick out the color that will match the color (that they are wearing). We tell them that if you wear a French (manicure) or a neutral color, it won’t look like (over accessorizing). If you have a neutral dress, you can do color because it will stand out, but if you have a bright color (dress), you should do neutral.
