VALDOSTA — A $100 million lawsuit against dozens of defendants named in a lawsuit surrounding the death of Kendrick Johnson has been dismissed, according to papers from the Superior Court of Lowndes County. A lawyer for the Johnson family says the lawsuit will be refiled.
Johnson’s parents, Kenneth and Jackie Johnson, filed a $100 million lawsuit in January 2015, alleging their son was murdered by the two sons of a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and the cause of his death was covered up by a host of state and local officials. At one point, more than 40 defendants were named in the lawsuit. The family countersued the Johnsons in May 2015 denying the accusations.
Kendrick Johnson’s body was found upside down in a vertically stored gym mat at Lowndes High School Jan. 11, 2013.
Chevene B. King Jr., attorney for the Johnsons, says the voluntary dismissal is intended to give the family more time since there is a separate investigation ongoing by a U.S. Attorney. He said the lawsuit would be eventually refiled.
