Hugh S. Comingore
VALDOSTA — Hugh S. Comingore, 79, of Valdosta, passed away Monday morning, May 20, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Orange County, Ind., and had lived in Valdosta for the past 29 years. He was retired from the Maintenance Department at South Georgia Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church and also helped build four churches with the Christian Service Core. Survivors include his wife, Margaret E. Comingore of Valdosta; one daughter, Janet Comingore of Valdosta; one son, Jerry Comingore of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Eleanor Henninger of Madison, Ind.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison, Ind., Saturday, May 25, 2002. Joe Duggan
NASHVILLE — Joe Duggan, 73, of Nashville, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 8, 1929, in Atkinson County to Willie H. and Mamie Stephens Duggan. He was a receiving stock manager with Morrison’s Home Center/Ace Hardware; Army veteran of Korea and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Miller and Willie Mae McDuffie and two brothers, Roy Duggan and Wilson Duggan. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth Mathis Duggan of Nashville; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Terry Morris of Nashville; one son, Mike Duggan of Nashville; one grandson, Justin Warren of Nashville; three stepgrandchildren, Hayley, Lesley and Eric Morris; one sister, Mildred Longstreet of Valdosta; and one brother, Charles Duggan of Nashville. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Hendley officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Ellen P. Hutchison
HAHIRA — Ellen P. Hutchison, 97, of Hahira, passed away Monday evening, May 20, 2002, at Holly Hill Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Johnsons United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hutchison and her son, Ira Franklin Sheren. Survivors include two daughters, Patty Myers of Hahira and Estella Yoak of Belleair Bluff, Fla.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. Ellen Marie Hambrick Rowe
VALDOSTA — Ellen Marie Hambrick Rowe, 72, of Valdosta, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Hahira on Jan. 28, 1930, and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Mrs. Rowe was the daughter of the late Mattie Kay Callahan Henderson and the late George Glen Hambrick. She was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Louis Hampton Hill III of Birmingham, Ala.; grandson, Robert Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gwen Hambrick of Yulee, Fla.; niece, Pamela Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephew, Richard Hambrick of Yulee, Fla. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Craig Rikard officiating. Richard E. Walker
ALBANY — Richard E. Walker, of Albany, was born on Feb. 4, 1927, in South Hill, Va., to the late Bennie and Elmer Walker. He departed this life on Friday, May 10, 2002, at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. His earliest educational training was re
ceived from the Mecklenburg County School System of South Hill, Va. Afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he actively served and rose to the rank of master gunnery sergeant. He retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years of service. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he attended Albany Vocational and Technical School where he received an associate’s degree. He was also formerly employed with the Miller Brewery Company of Albany. Richard was united in holy matrimony to Verma on March 15, 1975. He was a member of the Hines Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he served on the Trustee Board. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Verma P. Walker; brother, James (Winona) Walker Sr.; two sisters, Lizzie Mae Walker and Nora Lee Walker, all of Valdosta; three stepsons, William, Vernon and Roderick West of Albany; granddaughter, Roderica Verma West, Albany; two sisters-in-law, Gussie Rankins, Hartford, Conn., and Lessie Miller, Albany; three brothers-in-law, Charles Patterson, Lanham, Mich., Willie Patterson, Albany, and James Patterson, Bayonne, N.J.; a number of nieces, nephews, James G. Gerald N. Voltz
VALDOSTA — Gerald N. Voltz, MSgt., USAF, ret., 71, of Valdosta, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on Dec. 1, 1930, in Hornell, N.Y., to the late Lyman W. and Lillian Elizabeth Conner Voltz. MSgt. Voltz enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and during his career he served at Olmstead AFB, Middletown, Pa., Johnson AFB, Japan, Andrews AFB, Washington, D.C., Wheelus AFB, Libya and Moody AFB before retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hornell, N.Y., a member of the American Legion, DAV and the Withlacoochee Hunting Club and was retired from Sears. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie H. Voltz of Valdosta; five daughters and sons-in-law, Diane V. Rogers of Hahira, Debi V. and Brett Cantrell of Valdosta, Donna V. and Chuck West of Calhoun, Denise V. and Andy Perkins of Carrsville, Va., and Stephanie Voltz of Calhoun; eight grandchildren, Micaiah C. Barajas and her husband, Marcelino, Shaun Cantrell, Erin Cantrell, Gretchen Perkins, Gerald Perkins, Gabrielle Perkins and Gunther Perkins; one great-grandchild, Alex Barajas; and one sister, Luella Benson of Altoona, Pa. Graveside funeral services and burial with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. today in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
