VALDOSTA – Lane Smith, a Sallas Mahone Elementary School student, earned first place in grades 3-5 in the 2020 National Chemistry Week Illustrated Poem Contest.

The annual contest is sponsored by the Southwest Georgia Local Section of the American Chemical Society. Lane will receive an award of $50 for his efforts, school officials said in a statement.
