The Valdosta Police Department has implemented a new online service to assist traffic violators.

Valdosta Police Cmdr. Eugene Bell said citations issued by a Valdosta police officer can now be paid online at www.valdostatix.com through the nCourt service system.

“Our goal is to make it more convenient for people to pay their traffic citations, to include parking tickets, online,” Bell said. “This is also to alleviate some of the traffic flow in the (station’s) lobby. We feel and hope that by implementing this service, more citations will be paid on time.”

Since its start Jan. 1, 2012, more than a dozen people have used the service and the commander is hoping that number will increase as the word spreads throughout the community.

The service is available worldwide; however, the citation must be one from the VPD.

The citation holder must first contact the police department to find out how much the ticket is.

After the payment is made online, it will be verified by VPD personnel and either accepted or declined at that time. Bell said there are three things that will definitely cause a payment to be declined:

• If the citation is from any other agency besides the VPD

• If there is a mandatory court appearance

• If the incorrect amount is paid (cannot be less than amount requested)

All major credit/debit cards are accepted. For customers who do not have Internet accessibility, payments can also be made over the phone by calling 1-800-701-8560. The online service is available in Spanish.

Bell warned that a fee will be charged when using the newly implemented service.

That information is provided on the website.

This convenient service is just another addition seen in recent months at the police department.

In March 2011, the VPD added an online service for citizens to be able to make misdemeanor incident reports from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
