VALDOSTA — Wild Adventures Theme Park had a surprise birth to the delight of both staff and guests, according to a park spokesperson.

For the new season, Wild Adventures added new animals, creating a South American exhibit. Little did the park staff know when they purchased four alpacas that they were actually getting two for one.

Staff was told they would be receiving three male alpacas and one female. However, an alpaca that was supposed to be male gave birth around noon last Thursday.

According to Wild Adventures Public Relations Manager Laurie Windham, guests who happened to be nearby at the time gathered to watch the birth and cheered as the baby took its first steps.

The female baby is currently unnamed.

Guests can see the baby, her mother and fellow alpacas in a shared exhibit with other South American animals such as capybaras and rheas.

Adding even more to guests’ Wild Adventures experience, Splash Island will open for the season on April 2. Gates will open at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

April 2 will also be the first concert of the season with classic rockers Skid Row taking the stage. In honor of the occasions, it will be a pass holder appreciation concert, meaning up-close reserved seating will be free to season pass holders. Reserved seating will be on a first come first served basis.

Wild Adventures passes are currently available at a discount and include four bring-a-friend passes if purchased before April 10.
