Woman killed in Lowndes accident

VALDOSTA — Authorities are investigating a collision in Lowndes County that killed a woman Thursday. 

At noon, troopers responded to a collision on Ga. 31 near Old State Road, according to a statement from the Georgia State Patrol. A silver sedan was traveling south on Ga. 31 when it failed to stay in its lane and struck a white Ford Fusion that was traveling north on the same road, according to the statement.

After the collision with the Fusion, the silver sedan struck a red Ford Focus that was also traveling north on Ga. 31, according to the GSP. The driver of the silver sedan was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle; a passenger in the sedan, Deborah Weixl, 68, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the statement.

All parties involved were transported to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta for treatment. The patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.
