Braves’ action at trade deadline minimal but understandable

The trade deadline has come and gone in Major League Baseball. Most contending teams made significant acquisitions in hopes of making a postseason run over the next couple of months.
The Atlanta Braves made one trade with the San Francisco Giants. That was it. With all of their injury woes, the Braves made one move, but it may be all the team needs if injuries heal in certain players.
First to the trade. It’s time to get the 2021 band back together if you are an Atlanta Braves fan. Jorge Soler’s return to the Braves provides another power bat in the lineup while maybe solving the team’s issue at leadoff. The outfield production has struggled following the injuries to Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II in the outfield.
With all due respect to Adam Duvall and Ramon Laureno, but if the Braves were going to rely on them for extended postseason at-bats, there won’t be much of a postseason for the Braves. Soler has a modest .236 average with 12 homers and 40 RBIs. But we only have to turn the clock three years back to see the impact Soler can have with the Braves. He captured the World Series Most Valuable Player award in 2021, capped by a home run against the Astros in Game 6 that exited Minute Maid Park and still has not landed yet.
Luke Jackson’s return to the Braves helps fortify the bullpen. He had a 4-2 record and 5.40 ERA with the Giants. But his familiarity with the Braves organization should ease the return to Atlanta.
The one and only trade for the Braves tells me the team is confident in players, who are currently sidelined, will be ready for the stretch run and playoffs over the next few weeks. This includes starting pitcher Max Fried. Why deal away prospects for a rental starting pitcher when a playoff veteran should be ready soon?
It also includes Harris, who’s hoping to return in August after dealing with a hamstring strain. A fractured wrist has Ozzie Albies sidelined for eight weeks. He’s slated to return in mid-September.
Combine those expected reinforcements with the recent power surge of Matt Olson, the continued MVP performance from Marcell Ozuna and the steady hitting from Austin Riley, and there’s reasons to understand the Braves’ strategy at the trade deadline.
They only made one move, but it may be all they need. This team is still stacked with star power. They just need to get healthy.
