A former Valdosta State great and a local assistant professional are among the familiar faces in the field for next week’s Swing Thought Tour Classic at Kinderlou Forest presented by Valdosta-Lowndes County Sports Commission.
Brent Witcher, a two-time All-American with the Blazers and the Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the nation’s top Division II golfer in 2009 and an inductee a year ago into the Valdosta State Athletic Hall of Fame, is among the 111 players currently listed in the field for the Swing Thought Tour’s pro series season opener, which begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday at Kinderlou. Practice rounds are Monday and Tuesday with a Pro-Am set for Tuesday afternoon.
Jared Davis, the assistant professional at Kinderlou, is also in the field as he was a year ago for the Swing Thought Tour’s return to Valdosta. It previously held tournament at Kinderlou from 2004-06 as the Hooters Tour before the Web.com Tour held an annual event here through 2014.
Also returning from last year’s Classic are Chad Ramey, who tied for third a year ago, David Skinns, Jack Newman, Justin Martinson, Justin Lower, Josh Broadaway and Will McCurdy. Lower and Broadaway are former South Georgia Classic participants at Kinderlou as well, as are Nick Rousey and Casey Wittenberg, both in this year’s field.
Martinson was the Swing Thought Tour’s top money winner a year ago and is joined by fellow top-10 money winners McCurdy, second; Grant Leaver, third; Ramey, fifth; Lower, seventh; and Seth Reeves, 10th.
