Lowndes’ Nabers changes commitment to Florida State

After spending seven months as a Georgia Southern pledge, Lowndes’ Gabe Nabers has switched his commitment twice in the past 10 days.
But after committing to Florida State on Monday, it seems likely that is where the tight end/fullback will sign Feb. 3. Nabers will be taking an official visit to FSU this weekend, according to 247sports, which lists Nabers as a two-star recruit. He is also a two-star according to Rivals.com and a three-star according to Scout.com.
“First off I would like to thank Lowndes High School for putting me in a position to be successful,” Nabers wrote in a picture posted on Twitter. “I’ve been dreaming about a day like this since I first put on a helmet. Today I committed to Florida State University. Thank you god so much for all the many blessings, can’t wait to go to work. Go Noles! #tribe16”
His commitment to Florida State, which reportedly is recruiting him as a fullback, comes after he originally changed his pledge from Georgia Southern to South Florida on Jan. 16. Nabers, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound Lowndes senior, originally committed to Georgia Southern last June.
But even then, Nabers said he was still willing to listen if any Power 5 conference schools came calling.
“I really love Southern,” Nabers told The Times in June. “If any Big 5, Power 5 schools, you can’t turn them down. You have to look at them.”
And Nabers did just that with FSU, which has had success with Vikings before. Tyler Hunter was a senior defensive back for the Seminoles this past season and Lowndes has also sent defensive backs Gerald Demps and Greg Reid as well as linebacker Telvin Smith to FSU as well.
Nabers will join that pipeline to Tallahassee, Florida, after earning Region 1-6A Utility Player of the Year honors and was named honorable mention All-State by the Georgia Sports Writers Association following a senior season in which Nabers hauled in 17 catches for 173 yards and six touchdowns. But Nabers also saw significant time on the defensive line for the Vikings, registering 26 tackles, 4.5 for loss, with one sack, one interception, two pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick.
