Valdosta announces 2019 football schedule, Winnersville set for Sept. 27

VALDOSTA –– The Valdosta Wildcats announced their 2019 schedule on Tuesday.
Prior to the season opener, Valdosta opens the season with a scrimmage on the road against Glynn Academy on Aug. 16. The 106th season of ‘Cats football kicks off officially Aug. 23 at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium against Jackson High School out of Atlanta.
After the opener against Jackson, the ‘Cats will host Tift County, Bradwell Institute, Colquitt County and Beaufort (S.C.) before traveling to Martin Stadium to take on the rival Lowndes Vikings in the 58th Winnersville Classic on Sept. 27.
Valdosta holds a 37-20 record against Lowndes in 57 meetings all-time, but will try to snap a two-game skid against the Vikings.
Following the Classic, the ‘Cats will have their first open week of the season before region play. Valdosta hosts Houston County on Homecoming Oct. 11 before traveling to Douglas to battle the Coffee Trojans. The ‘Cats are back home Oct. 25 to host last year’s Class 6A state champion Lee County and go back on the road Nov. 1 to play Northside-Warner Robins.
The ‘Cats have another open week Nov. 8 before the start of the Class 6A State Playoffs. The first round of the playoffs starts Nov. 15 and runs up to the state championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Dec. 13.
