COMIC REVIEW: Avengers: Brian Michael Bendis The Complete Collection

Writer Brian Michael Bendis had a stellar run on “The Avengers.”

And the Avengers were a stellar team during his run.

“Avengers Prime” was a limited series that set the stage for his run. It featured the Big Three: Thor, Ironman and non-Captain America Steve Rogers. They deal with a tilt of the cosmic axis flinging the nine realms of Norse mythology into a jumble.

With the reconstitution of a new Avengers team, there’s an amazing time-travel tale involving Kang the Conqueror, Ultron, Apokalypse, the Maestro Hulk and others.

Time is shattered so the heroes and the villains are stuck in a “Groundhog Day” repetition that requires a daring proposition.

Given the rumors the fourth Avengers movie will involve time travel, a reader could easily imagine portions of the Bendis tale being used.

“Avengers Prime,” the dozen “Avengers’ issues and a couple of annuals are collected in “Avengers: Brian Michael Bendis The Complete Collection.”

The dozen “Avengers” issues are illustrated by the great John Romita Jr. He’s fully on his game here.

As is Bendis throughout this pulse-pounding collection.

The collection does not include Bendis’ work with “New Avengers:” and other Avengers projects but it is a strong collection of his work with the more traditional Avengers line-up.
