The Friday evening matchup between the hosting John Milledge Academy Trojans (7-0) and the Community Christian Knights felt like the unofficial kickoff to fall, and the home team had plenty of things to celebrate aside from the cool 60 degree weather. 

For starters they secured a much-needed win against the threatening Community Christian Knights, and also had their stable running back Amaad Foston score three touchdowns for good measure. 

By the time the ballgame was all wrapped up, the Trojans found themselves soundly on the winning end by a score of 28-7 behind a great rushing attack. 

“If we have success running the ball early then we are going to keep doing it,” Coach Wall commented after the game when asked about his offensive game plan. 

“Bellflower also did a good job of managing the game and making the right passes when we needed them,” he added.

From the opening drive it was clear Foston would be the key to winning the ballgame when he carried it down the field on several carries to both sides of the hash marks. He eventually plunged in behind his right guard to score and secure the early Trojan lead at 7-0.

After the Knights received the ensuing kickoff, sophomore defensive back Taylor Dixon came up big with an interception on a deep ball around the JMA 5-yard line. 

“We did feel like if we were able to pressure him and keep him contained he may make some errant throws,” Wall relayed in regards to the Trojans’ defensive approach.

“Our secondary showed up for us tonight,” he concluded. 

Bellflower and Foston each contributed on the following drive before Foston eventually punched it in again behind a great lead block by Carson Dyer on fourth down.

Later in the second quarter, the Trojans gave up a touchdown to the Knights on a quarterback read that went for 20 yards.

Whatever momentum may have been soaked up by the Knights was quickly wrung out by the Trojan offense, who marched it down the field following the deep kickoff. 

Just before the half ended, Bellflower was able to connect with Dixon, also playing wide receiver, in the end zone out of a four-wide set for the seemingly safe 21-7 halftime lead.

Following the intermission JMA picked up right where they had left off with a heavy dose of power runs. 

Eventually Foston would find touchdown grass once more, and on the same scoring run the sophomore surpassed 1,000 yards rushing through just the seventh game of the season. 

The Trojan defense held strong during the next possession, and Patrick McDonel was able to snag his second interception of the day, and third for the defense, to give the offense the ball with less than six minutes on the clock. 

The offense took over and confidently chewed more than five minutes of clock to finish out the ballgame.

John Milledge reenters region play next week, hitting the road to face Bethlehem Christian.
