Football: Bucs down the Ducks (Full story)

The Branford High School varsity football team played the Cornerstone Charter Ducks on Thursday, Oct. 23, and won with a final score of 26-12. Here are some highlights of the game.  

Buccaneer Alec Burt scored a touchdown on a 25 yard run early in the first quarter. The extra point kick was no good making the score 6-0. Dakota Lorenz broke up a pass on a fourth down stopping the Ducks drive.

In the second quarter, Buccaneer Shawn Belanger broke up a pass and Anthony Akers scored a touchdown on a seven yard run. The extra point kick was once again no good making the score 12-0.

Buccaneer Blake Darling stopped the Ducks from advancing on fourth down in the third quarter, but later were able to take it over the line for a Duck touchdown. The extra point kick was no good making the score 12 -6, Bucs. 

Burt once again scored after a 48 yard run in the fourth quarter. They went for a two-point conversion and Brandon Sproule made the catch making the score 20-6, Bucs. Dakota Lorenz intercepted a pass, but later, the Ducks scored on another pass play bringing the score to 20-12. On an onside kick, Burt got the ball and made a 50 yard run for another Buccaneer touchdown. The extra point was unsuccessful making the score 26-12. The Ducks almost added another touchdown to their score, but Lorenz intercepted a pass in the end zone and the clock ran out giving the Bucs a victory with the final score 26-12.

The Buccaneers take on Lafayette in Mayo Friday night in a district game. Kickoff in Mayo is at 7:30 p.m.
