MACON – Georgia Christian School’s Lady Generals flag football team wrapped up a successful regular season on Monday, Nov. 4, in Macon, closing with a hard-fought split in two games that showcased their competitive spirit and defensive tenacity.
The Lady Generals, who came into the evening with a 4-0 record, took on familiar rivals St. Andrew’s and Mount de Sales, securing one victory and one close defeat to finish the season 5-1.
In their first game of the night, the Lady Generals faced St. Andrew’s, a team they had beaten earlier in the season. After an early fumble in the end zone left them trailing by two points in the first half, Georgia Christian came out firing in the second. The Lady Generals scored three unanswered touchdowns, with sisters Maddie Mira and Kenna Mira each rushing for a touchdown. Both touchdowns were set up by critical interceptions on St. Andrew’s side of the field.
Sage Grimes then put the game out of reach, connecting with Kylie Corbett on a beautiful pass to the corner of the end zone for the Lady Generals’ third touchdown, securing an 18-2 win over St. Andrew’s.
The second game against Mount de Sales turned into a defensive showdown. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Generals were unable to find the end zone and fell 6-0 after allowing a single, decisive rush down the sideline in the second quarter, which led to Mount de Sales’ lone score.
With their 5-1 record, the Lady Generals stand atop the region and currently hold the No. 2 ranking in the GIAA state classification, according to MaxPreps. They now look forward to the GIAA state playoffs, set for Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Their final playoff seeding will be determined after the regular season concludes on Nov. 16.
