RIVEROAK hosting career fair, program showcase
LIVE OAK — Tracy Henderson has high hopes for Thursday’s RIVEROAK Technical College Program Showcase and Career Fair.
Henderson, adult education teacher at RTC and organizer of the career fair and showcase, said there are more than 50 outside agencies slated to attend in addition to the 19 programs offered at RIVEROAK.
“It should be our best ever,” Henderson said of the event, which is scheduled to last from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at RTC, located at 415 SW Pinewood Dr. in Live Oak.
“It should be the biggest and best…I’m trying to get all the bells and whistles.”
Helping to make it the biggest and best showcase and career fair yet will be the return of the flight medic helicopter, which will land in front of the RTC main building, as well as the K-9 training team from Lake City, which included 13 dogs a year ago. Florida Highway Patrol is scheduled to bring its rollover simulator and Henderson said several branches of the military and National Guard may be bringing equipment to showcase as well.
RIVEROAK also hopes to show all it has to offer at the showcase. Students and faculty from each of the college’s 19 programs will be on hand and Henderson said the welding technology class may even do a presentation during the event.
Florida Gateway College and North Florida College will also be attending.
“Hopefully we will be able to reach a lot of students,” Henderson said, adding transportation is provided from Branford and Hamilton County high schools. “We want to let people what we’re all about, but also there are other occupations out there.
“We just want what’s best for our students all around.”
