Commissioners pass resolution promoting Suwannee River

The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday to designate a portion of U.S. Highway 129 as the “Historical Suwannee River Scenic Parkway.”

John Koch, a Suwannee County Development Authority member, said this is an opportunity to entice tourists to visit Hamilton and Suwannee counties.

Within the resolution, it states the Suwannee River is world famous and this will help promote rural tourism in Florida.

The “Historical Suwannee River Scenic Parkway” will be a portion of U.S. Highway 129 from Interstate 75 to Interstate 10 in Suwannee County.

According to Koch, the Suwannee County Development Authority will take the lead on the project and a date of when the new signage will be installed is not available yet.
