Viral video: Anchor has Ron Burgundy moment on live TV

A morning meteorologist at a TV station in Green Bay, Wis., had a real-life Ron Burgundy moment this week thanks to a prank by one of his co-workers.

After NBC26 anchor Jenny Evans finished reading a story about cats, meteorologist Brian Niznansky read from the teleprompter, “In other news, I love lamp.”

The line – and the prompter prank – are in reference to the Will Ferrell film “Anchorman,” in which Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy character reads anything that shows up in the prompter, even if it doesn’t make any sense.

The “I love lamp” line is actually spoken in the movie by a dim-witted meteorologist, played by Steve Carell.

After he read the prompter mistake, Niznansky began laughing, realizing he’d been pranked. The YouTube video of the flub places the blame on the show’s director for inserting the “lamp” line.
